Further details about Gutter Dyeing photos

GD003 - SandraC - first attempt at gutter dyeing. I used silk top and steamed it for 30 min then left to cool and rinsed. The colours were to represent the coast (sand, deep sea, shallow sea, coral, kelp, and sea foam)

GD009 - ChristineS - These are the skeins and silk hankies I dyed yesterday. As you can see it was a very fruitful day. I had lots of fun doing it. I used acid dyes in blue, teal, purple, hot pink and scarlet all in different combinations. To apply the dye I used a meat baster. It sucks up lots of dye at once but is not as accurate as a syringe. If you want the dye applied randomly it does the job well. When I dyed the same colours, I also re-used the cling film, not to be too wasteful. The gutter worked well, but I think my gutter was narrower than the one I saw on the picture. Still worked though!

GD020 - HeatherA - The cotton batting fibre will be used to make cotton paper with dilute acrylic medium. All my dyes were applied by randomly pouring them from a jar though a squeezable baby bottle and this has worked well for me previously. I used too much dye on the cotton with the red, yellow, blue. Ciprion are like Procion brand.

GD022 - HeatherA - The half felt will be cut, needled at the seams and hard finished into a bag. Landscapes are acid dyes.

GD023 - ChristineS - Today I dyed my skeins and tops mainly with teal, navy blue and purple.

GD024 - ChristineS - The new pictures on the dyeing blog inspired me to dye some felt too. I saw on one of the pictures that someone used pegs to hold the clingfilm in place. That is such a good idea, especially when it is windy, as it was today!
